Visakhapatnam: The Congress party in the district received another blow as the sitting MLA of Narsipatnam Bolem Mutyala Papa and former MLA of Bheemili Karri Seetaram shifted their loyalties to YSR Congress (YSRCP). With these two desertions, the Congress now has only a few big names such as former minister P Balaraju and Dronamraju Srinivas in Vizag.
Mutyala Papa, first woman MLA from Narsipatnam, is a relative of YSRCP district president and Narasannapet former MLA Dharmana Krishna Das of Srikakulam, who is the elder brother of former Congress minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, who also joined the YSRCP recently.
Mutyala Papa has already met YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and would officially join his party soon, sources said, adding that she has been assured the Narsipatnam Assembly seat. This would come as a surprise for the cadre, which has till now believed that Petla Umashankar Ganesh, the brother of Tollywood director Puri Jagannath, would be the candidate for the Narsipatnam seat.
Karri Seetaram, who won the Bheemili seat in 2004 elections, did not get a ticket the next time. He announced his resignation on Tuesday and said he would join YSRCP in the presence of Jaganmohan Reddy. He alleged that the Congress high command hurt the feelings and sentiments of the Seemandhra people during the state bifurcation.
