Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said the Rajya Sabha elections exposed, for yet another time, the nexus among Congress, TRS and YSRC and their “prior conspiratorial understanding”.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said as part of their understanding, the Congress and TRS shared MLA votes while YSRC deliberately abstained from helping the two. Otherwise, there was no reason why the Congress did not put up the fourth candidate while the TRS, having only the strength of 17, should enter the fray.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy indulged in big talk on Samaikyandhra and even sat on fast, but when an opportunity arose to embarrass the party high command, he meekly surrendered by making the rebels withdraw from contest. It meant that he was playing a double game, he alleged. The talk of Mr. Kiran Reddy’s resignation too was part of the drama enacted by the Congress, he added.
The YSRC had the support of 23 MLAs, but surprisingly stayed away from elections to help the Congress and TRS proving that it was keen on State division. They all stuck to the script finalised by AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Mr. Naidu said it was not a personal issue of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh or Ms. Gandhi. It concerned nine-crore people of the State and it should not have been decided in New Delhi.
It’s not too late to call the stakeholders from Telangana and Seemandhra for a meeting to sort out differences and settle the issue amicably.
Meanwhile, the YSRC charged the Congress and TDP with entering into a deal and getting the Rajya Sabha elections advanced to gain politically.
