Hyderabad: The support of the minorities and the MIM party is expected to play an important and leading role in the success of the candidate to wrest the Chevella Parliamentary Constituency in the quadrangular contest in tomorrow’s crucial polling.
The Chevella Lok Sabha seat was won by the Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy in the 2009 elections and in the current elections he opted to enter the election from his native district of Mahabubnagar.
The former Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy had to forego from contesting in the present elections in order to ensure the Congress ticket for her son Karthik. The TRS has fielded Konda Visveshwar Reddy, an entrepreneur hailing from the famous Konda family of politicians. He is the grandson of Konda Ranga Reddy, who was the Deputy Chief Minister and son of Justice Konda Madhava Reddy. The TDP has fielded T. Veerender Goud, son of senior party leader and Rajya Sabha member T. Devender Goud. The YSRCP nominee is Konda Raghava Reddy.
Among the contesting candidates are sons of two former ministers and the grandson of a former Deputy Chief Minister . Thus elections in this Lok Sabha constituency has attained all attention and importance. There was seven Assembly segements in the constituency — Meshwaram, Rajendranagar, Sherlingampally, Chevella, Parigi, Vicarabad and Tandur– and all form part of Ranga Reddy district.
The Lok Sabha constituency has a sizeable number of minority voters and thus their support would go a long way in the success of any candidate. As a matter of fact keeping view the large number of muslim population in the district, the MIM has fielded its nominees in two of the Assembly segments of Rajendranagar and Sherlingampally. Thus the support of the MIM party and the Muslim voters is bound to tilt the balance of winning chances of a candidate.
The MIM is bound to keep its distance from the TDP nominee Veerender Goud in view of the BJP-TDP alliance. Since it has severed its connection with the YSRCP on the Telangana issue, MIM is left the option either supporting the Congress nominee Karthik Reddy or TRS candidate Visveshwar Reddy.
There is no denial of the fact that MIM was cutup with the then Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy holding her responsible for the arrest of Akbaruddin, party MLA in a case. Though the two parties sorted out their misunderstanding, it is believed that the MIM was not very keen to extend support to the Congress nominee he being the son of Sabitha Indira Reddy. Hence from all aspects the MIM it is said might sail with the TRS and in fact informed sources disclosed that the party at a crucial meeting last night has decided to extend support to the TRS nominee. Apart from this the Muslim youth seemed to be fully in favour Visveshwar Reddy as he being an entrepreneur.
It is also pertinent to mention here that the close proximity of KCR and MIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi would also help both the TRS and MIM candidates in the Assembly constituencies. Also in the matter of forming the government in the new Telangana State MIM is bound to play an important role in extending its cooperation to the pink party. Considering all these aspects, there is no denial of the fact tha the prospects of TRS nominee Visveshwar Reddy seemed to have brightened on the eve of the polling.
