New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party sources made it clear that former Minister Daggubati Purandareswari will contest for Loksabha from Rajampet segment in Kadapa district. This move is quite surprising and inferior if we have to compare it with the stature of late NTR’s daughter.
Purandareswari is an MP from Vizag formerly and she is expected to contest for Vijayawada Loksabha seat. However, in the seat-sharing pact signed by BJP-TDP as part of their coalition, the national party failed to grab major and key Loksabha segments for sure. When it comes to Vijayawada central Loksabha seat, BJP agreed to take up a constituency for assembly rather the MP seat. This left Purandareswari with no option as she is unwilling to contest from assembly.
Even BJP high-command wants her national level as her expertise as MP of 10 years and union minister and clout at Delhi level is impressive. But why Rajampet then? Is it not a weak segment where a BJP candidate could fight and win, though it is Purandareswari? And how far TDP cadres will help her swim through is also a question.
