Hyderabad: Expressing gratitude to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for fulfilling dream of four crore population of Telangana, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has said that it was time both Seemandhra and Telangana people forget the past and move on in a progressive path to become role model states for the entire states in the future.
Speaking to newsmen at his New Delhi residence, which was jam-packed with Telangana leaders and supporters after Rajya Sabha cleared the Telangana bill on Thursday evening, Rao said this moment cannot be called as victory of one region or a defeat of another region.
‘Telangana people desired for self-respect and self-rule for the last sixty years and today their goal has been achieved’ He assured that people hailing from Seemandhra region and settled in Hyderabad and rest of Telangana districts could live without fear in the new state. We never thought that they do not belong to Telangana region, he pointed out.
Earlier the TRS chief thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and leaders of other national parties including Mayawati, Sharad Pawar, Ajit Singh, Ramvilas Paswan and Lalu Prasad Yadav for turning the dream of four crore Telangana people into a reality.
Remembering Telangana ideologue late Prof.Jayashankar at this hour, Rao said that the professor would have been the happiest person in Telangana if he lived this moment.
He thanked his party leaders and activists who were with him during his thick and thin times in the separate state movement in the last thirteen years. Government employees, doctors, lawyers, professors, students and people from all walks of life played a stellar role in the agitation.
Hailing sacrifices of thousands of martyrs who laid down their lives for statehood cause, the TRS chief said that their efforts would be recognized in the new state.
Appealing to media not to pose questions on political issues since this was a special occasion, he said that he would answer to queries from media on Friday.
Rao said that he would stay put in New Delhi for few more days to personally meet and thank Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh among others for fulfilling aspirations of Telangana public.
