The fate of Talasani Srinivasa Yadav, Minister for Commercial Taxes hangs in balance as he seems to have fallen from the grace of his chief if the recent developments and the off- the cuff remarks made by the Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy on his resignation issue are of any indication. The minister who was tasked with the job of galvanizing the cadre support for the ruling party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for the ensuing election, is now divested of the responsibility.
The IT Minister K T Rama Rao is likely to be given the charge. Though he has been officially appointed as chairman of committee to oversee the development of the city, he was kept away from a meeting of the panel held to review the ongoing drinking water project of the city. Home minister N Narasimha Reddy recently commented that the Srinivasa Yadav did not resign to his MLA post yet, as claimed by the latter before the media in the past and also supported a recent RTI revelation of the Assembly Secretariat that Talasani did not tender his resign so far.
The Commercial Taxes Minister is under fire from the Opposition for continuing in the State cabinet, despite the fact that he was elected on the ticket of TDP. The TDP leadership had lodged a complaint questioning the violation of defection laws by the minister and sought his dismissal from the cabinet and also from the Assembly. It seems he is under pressure from the ruling party to put in the papers to the cabinet portfolio.
He was not invited to a meeting on Hyderabad Metro Water Works and Sewerage Board and it was supervised by IT Minister KT Rama Rao. The Talasani episode has become a headache for the ruling party as it was forced to face constitutional issues and has been left with no defence to protect the minister. According to sources, the minister may not be of much use to the ruling party in the elections to GHMC.
Induction of Talasani in the cabinet has deprived a post to the MLAs of the ruling party in the council of ministers, and unless he resigns, new incumbent could not be accommodated. The ruling party considers the GHMC elections as a key to its future activities as the win would give a strong foothold in the city, which returned only one legislator of TRS, in the previous elections.
Expeditious development of Hyderabad would play a key role in the win GHMC and winning the other party workers also is considered as an important strategy. The Commercial Taxes Minister failed to take on Telugu Desam party in Hyderabad strongly and could not expand the ruling party base in the city. Without a proper cadre base, TRS would be hard pressed to make substantial gains in the GHMC elections.
