New Delhi: Rising tempers over the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2013 spilled onto the streets on Wednesday, with pro- and anti-Telangana supporters clashing outside the Andhra Bhawan.Supporters from both sides of the divide were holding the protests outside the Andhra Bhawan when the scuffle began.
MPs were also holding protests outside Parliament over the Telangana Bill, which is expected to be tabled in the current session that began today.
The Congress has said that it was serious about bringing the contentious bill in Parliament. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appealed for a peaceful bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in a meeting with TRS leaders yesterday.
Also today, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is likely to participate in a dharna at Jantar Mantar to oppose Telangana, while his deputy, who is from Telangana, would begin a sit-in at Rajghat.
Sources close to the Chief Minister claimed a galaxy of leaders, including Union Ministers from Seemandhra region, Ministers, MLAs and MLCs from Andhra Pradesh, are likely to take part in the dharna.
On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha is expected to be joined by Congress legislators including ministers from his region.YRS Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy is also expected to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar today, in favour of united Andhra Pradesh.
