According to reports, the MLA staged a dharna in front of the police station demanding the police to release YSRCP activists who were arrested for unknown reasons.
The police however did not pay heed to his demands, and instead used third degree on the activists. Protesting against the callous attitude of the police, the MLA consumed pesticides.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be critical. Meanwhile, YSRCP called for a band in Rayadurgam tomorrow to protest the police action.
Speaking to media, Ananthapur MLA Gurunath Reddy said, “I have spoken to doctors who are treating Kapu. They said his condition is serious and advised his family members to take him to Bellary for better treatment.”
He said just days after President’s rule has been imposed in the state, police have taken control in Anathapur and there is no stopping them.
According to latest reports, YSRCP supporters in large number went to SP office and staged a dharna.
