Hyderabad: When YSR Congress party honorary president YS Vijayamma decided to tour in the flood-hit areas of Telangana region, opposition parties were quick to issue warnings against the proposed tour. Congress leaders from Telangana asked their party cadres to stop Vijayamma from entering Telangana. Just as they said Nalgonda police took Vijayamma into custody on Thursday citing law and order problems.
YSRCP leaders from Telangana strongly condemned the arrest of Vijayamma calling the action as ‘undemocratic’. “The T-JAC and T-Congress leaders have resorted to this denigrating act as they are scared that the Samaikyandhra sentiment may get strengthened and the Telangana movement may lose its momentum,” party senior leader and political affairs committee member Bajireddy Govardhan told media persons here.
However, there is more to it. Congress leaders have apparently realised that YSRCP may surprise them in the elections, as reports suggested that it may win 4-5 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, which is making them uncomfortable as they have already been pulled up by the high command for failing to convince the people that it was Congress which granted Telangana. As the party consolidated its position in Seemandhra, it is learnt that YS Jaganmohan Reddy is firm on fielding strong candidates across Telangana also, taking the elections as a challenge to prove his capabilities in leading the party. It is being said that votes in Telangana will be divided among TRS, Congress and BJP in some areas, which will give further advantage to the YSRCP!
