Shankar-Rajinikanth film ‘2.O’ is a sequel to the super hit film ‘Robo’ released seven years ago. We can say that this is the costliest movie in India till now. The movie is going to be released in five more months.. but it has become a hot topic due to the price of its theatrical rights.
‘2.O’ producers Lyca Productions have already sold the theatrical rights for Telangana, AP to Global Cinemas long back. Now, Asian Films distributors have acquired the rights from Global Cinemas as per buzz. They have invested Rs.81 crores which is a huge figure. ‘Robo’ dubbing rights were sold at Rs.27 crores seven years ago.. now the distributors have invested three times the price of ‘Robo’ for ‘2.O’. The expectations are very high on the film but the figure is also high.
It is indeed a big record in India because it is only for Dubbing rights of Telugu states.. satellite rights, overseas rights are not included. If the prints and other expenses are added to the theatrical rights the figure will touch Rs. 85 crores. The distributors will be in the safe zone only the film collections more than Rs. 85 crores share. Except for Baahubali series and Khaidi No. 150, no other film could achieve more than 85 crores in Telugu till now. ‘2.O’ should enter Tollywood top 3 collected films if it has to become a safe project.
