A.R. Rahman Honoured With Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award


AR-RahmanOscar winning composer A.R. Rahman has been recently conferred with Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award on the occasion of 78th birthday of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Rahman, who was happy to receive the honour said, “The music of Hridaynath-ji is an inspiration”. He also credited Mangeshkar family for upholding musical traditions across generations.

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who has worked with the renowned music composer in Taal, presented the award to him. “He didn’t know Hindi or Punjabi but worked 70 nights on the music of “Taal” and proved he is the best musician. He is not only a big celebrity, he is a beautiful soul”, he said, adding that Rahman is a beautiful soul.

Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with the first ever Hridaynath Award. Asha Bhosle, Amitabh Bachchan and veteran actress Sulochana were the other celebrities who have received the award in the past. A.R. Rahman is the fifth recipient of the award.
