‘Baahubali 2 Can’t Beat Dangal’

Vijayendra PrasadThe box office race between Telugu epic ‘Baahubali 2’ and Bollywood film ‘Dangal’ has been a never ending process. With ‘Dangal’ crossing ‘Baahubali 2’ to stand at the moment as India’s highest grosser with the help of its unbelievable performance at Chinese box office, and ‘Baahubali 2’ shortly set for a wide release in China, fans of the epic Telugu film are of the opinion that it would beat ‘Dangal’ after its release in China.

Vijayendra Prasad, the ace writer who had created the world of ‘Baahubali’ on paper, however believes that Baahubali 2 can’t surpass Dangal. In one of his recent interviews, he reasoned, ‘Chinese people have seen umpteen costume dramas like Baahubali 2 so I feel that it will not work there. Dangal became a huge success there because people connected with the women-centric plot and how a daughter fulfilled the dream of her father.’

With the Baahubali writer himself declaring that the magnum opus has no chance of overtaking ‘Dangal’, fans might be disappointed. His analysis is supported by the fact that when Baahubali first part was released in China two years ago after it had created mayhem at the Indian box office, it couldn’t replicate the same success story there.

The senior writer further said that instead of comparing ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Dangal’, people should celebrate as two Indian films have performed exceptionally well and increased the reach of Indian cinema.
