Looks like all’s not well between director Anil Kumar and actress Madhurima, who plays the lead along with Vinay in Serndhu Polama. The director alleges that Madhurima failed to extend cooperation while shooting for the film in New Zealand.
Anil, who has directed several films in Malayalam, says, “We shot the film in New Zealand for almost 50 days. When we do outdoor schedules, everyone will have to compromise in terms of comfort and not depend on assistants. Also, women’s safety is a big concern. Since she (Madhurima) travelled alone, we put her up at an apartment instead of a motel.” However, despite all this, Anil claims that the actress showed attitude on the set.
“She didn’t keep up time,” he alleges, “There are several restrictions when you shoot abroad; you have to get permission from the government for every shot, and mention the locations where you are planning to shoot and also the timings. We had scheduled a shoot at 7 am and she took her own time to come to the location.” Claims Anil, “On another occasion, we had hired a high-end camera used in Hollywood, along with a foreign technician, for a couple of days. But Madhurima didn’t report to the set, stating that she needed a break. Everyone, including our producer, got irritated with her. She’s a good actress, but doesn’t co-operate or keep up time.”
He continues, “Despite planning the shoot, our schedule went haywire due to her attitude. I might have to go to New Zealand again with the rest of the cast, including Thalaivasal Vijay, but I will decide on it only after editing the footage I have.”
They have cornered me: Madhurima
During the New Zealand schedule, I wasn’t given any personal assistance or hotel accommodation, which every artist deserves. I never travel to foreign locations without my parents. However, as the person who was processing my mother’s visa messed up, I had no choice but to go alone. I didn’t even get 10 per cent of my remuneration as advance before heading abroad.
And my manager, who is also the film’s production controller, didn’t help me out. I tried discussing the issue with my producer, but we couldn’t find a solution. Two of my other films got delayed because I was working on this project. All I would say is that they have cornered me. After 90 per cent of the film got completed, I raised my voice for my payment and they make me look like a criminal!
