As per trade reports, Gautam Nanda collected mere $10K on its opening day. US audiences have once again vehemently rejected a commercial potboiler. Looking at the opening, the film is expected to end up somewhere around $50K. This is a huge setback for both Gopichand and director Sampath Nandi who hoped that the film would open doors for them in the US.
Fidaa on the other hand continues its dream run at box office. The Sekhar Kammula directorial minted $80K on its second Friday, 8 times to what Gautam Nanda collected on its opening day, which is phenomenal. Fidaa is expected to cross $1.5-1.6M by the end of its second weekend.
Coming back to Gautam Nanda, the film reportedly had a below-par opening in the Telugu states as well. Considering that high amount of money has been doled out by buyers of all areas, the film needs to pick up on Saturday and Sunday, before setting itself up for the crucial Monday test.
It may be noted that Gopichand hasn’t had a hit since ‘Loukyam’ (2014).
