Director Ram Gopal Varma, who always stays in hunt of controversial subjects to make films on them, is now reportedly planning to make a biopic on Baba Ram Rahim Singh, who was recently sent to 20 years in jail on Rape charges.
Buzz in Bollywood circles is that Ram Gopal Varma is currently busy in getting complete details of the Baba’s life, which is a huge mystery. Varma is said to be planning to rope in a noted Bollywood actor. He is allegedly planning to showcase both the positive and negative sides of Baba’s life. Varma is expected to make an announcement very soon.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been the head of the social group Dera Sacha Sauda since 1990. He has released several music albums and films, which typically revolve around himself and his teachings. He is usually credited in his films as actor, director, writer, lyricist, and in various other roles. He received credits in 30 separate film departments for his 2016 film MSG: The Warrior Lion Heart.
Singh has been accused of rape, murder and ordering forced castrations. On 25 August, he was convicted of rape by a special CBI court. His conviction led to widespread rioting, which left 40 people dead and over 300 injured. On 28 August, Singh was sentenced to 20 years in jail for rape, and the verdict shook both Punjab and Haryana.
Ram Rahim Singh commands huge number of followers, and it would be a risk to showcase him in bad light in the biopic. We need to see how the fearless Varma handles this biopic.
