Varun Dhawan, who is busy shooting for Sui Dhaaga in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, had an accident on the sets. Mid-Day reports that the actor insisted on shooting for a fight sequence himself, without using a body double, and ended up injuring himself.
According to a unit hand, Varun was shooting for a sequence in which his character, Mauji, gets involved in a street brawl. In one part of the scene, he had to roll down a flight of stairs. Although director Sharat Katariya tried to dissuade Varun, he was determined to not take the help of a body double.
“Unfortunately, while filming, one of the steps in the staircase gave way and in the process, he sustained injuries on his head, including a gash on the forehead,” the source revealed.
The shoot was immediately halted, and Varun was treated for his injuries. The injuries were minor, but the doctor advised bed rest for the day. However, the actor refused to take the day off and resumed shooting after taking rest for a few hours, as he did not want the schedule to be delayed.
A spokesperson for Yash Raj Films confirmed the news.
Sui Dhaaga is the first time that Varun Dhawan will be paired with Anushka Sharma. Set in small-town India, the film will have Varun playing a tailor, while Anushka will play an embroiderer.
In a statement, Varun had said, “From Gandhiji (Mahatma Gandhi) to Modiji (Narendra Modi), our country’s leaders have always endorsed the mantra of Made in India. With Sui Dhaaga, I’m proud to take their message to millions of movie lovers in a manner that is entertaining and relevant.”
Sui Dhaaga is scheduled to release on September 28 this year.
