Based on the first day’s theatre occupancy and valuable inputs by trade experts, we had earlier predicted that Jayam Ravi’s Thani Oruvan might collect ₹9.5 crore and ₹1.25 crore at the Tamil Nadu and Chennai box office respectively, from its first weekend.
Now, the official word regarding the box office figures of Thani Oruvan has it that the psychological thriller has grossed 1.29 crore rupees in Chennai and close to 11 crores from the whole of Tamil Nadu at the end of its opening weekend.
It is said that the sleek entertainer has accumulated an impressive 13.25 crore rupees (approx) from India alone. This is now officially the biggest opener for any Jayam Ravi starrer. It is also said that collections from the state of Kerala has not been taken into consideration as the film failed to grab a sizeable proportion of total theatres, due to the release of 4 prominent Malayalam movies.
Having said that, our correspondents from the God’s own country have predicted that the film will eventually grasp more screens as a good word of mouth is spreading across the state. In Karnataka, Thani Oruvan has reportedly grossed 1.10 crore from its first three days with Bangalore contributing handsomely.
It is to be noted that this film’s collection has already surpassed the total gross of Romeo Juliet in the state of Karnataka.

ATMUS Entertainment, the distributors of Thani Oruvan in the United States, has confirmed the movie’s hit status in the Land of Liberty. They wrote, “#ThaniOruvan USA gross $75K! Blockbuster, all set for $100K by next weekend”.

They have also confirmed that more screens will be allotted to the film as Thani Oruvan is in demand right now with some even calling it India’s Dark Knight.
Total US Collections
The total collections from the United States alone stands at $75,000 which when converted to Indian rupees becomes, 49.8 lakh rupees.
In the United Kingdom, it is said that the movie has so far grossed 26,611 from just 17 screens. When the amount is converted to Indian rupees, it becomes 27.2 lakh rupees.
In Australia, the weekend gross of the movie reportedly stands at A$ 42,372 which is 20 lakh rupees. This is a decent weekend gross for any Tamil movie in Australia.
It is being reported that the flick is doing extremely well in France as well. Though the official figures are not available at the moment, it is said that the movie is heading for a box office success in the country.
