Salman Khan‘s Tubelight has started off on an impressive note as the film raked in Rs 21.15 crore on day 1 at the domestic box office. The film was one of the most exciting films of the year, however it opened to an occupancy of just 40 per cent in the morning shows yesterday (June 23). We had expected the film to open to at least 80 per cent occupancy, considering the fact that it was Salman Khan’s Eid release and he was coming back to the silver screen after a year. However, the Pre-Eid period had affected the movie. But even though it witnessed a below par start, the Kabir Khan directorial grew over the day and ended the evening shows on a high. Mentioning about the first day collections, trade analyst Taran Adrash mentioned, “#Tubelight Fri Rs 21.15 crore. India biz.”

With a good growth in the evening shows and a relatively free weekend, we are sure Tubelight will flex its wings and rake in the moolah. According to us, the film has opened well and should rake in Rs 70-80 crore over the first weekend, which is quite a decent number. Our trade expert – Amul Vikas Mohan (Editor of Super Cinema) also agrees with us, as he predicts, “Tubelight can earn anywhere between Rs 20-25 crore on day one. It can go on to earn Rs 27 crore on day two and Rs 28-30 crore on day three. By that calculation, Tubelight will earn Rs 80-85 crore over the first weekend, which would be phenomenal.”

However, Tubelight will not be anywhere close to the collections of the other Salman Khan Eid releases during the first weekend. This is because of the fact that it is still pre-Eid and most of Salman’s fans will not been able to watch the film till Monday. As Amul explains, “Eid has not kicked in yet, so one entire community is not watching the film, they will watch it on Monday or Tuesday. Right now, in terms of occupancy, it is still the third highest after Baahubali 2 and Raees this year.”

While Salman’s heartwarming act has melted many hearts, the plot has not appealed to the critics and the audience. This has limited the word of mouth publicity to being just decent. But we still expect Tubelight to see a huge spike on Tuesday owing to Eid.
