Balakrishna’s 100th film Gautami Putra Satakarni is creating sensation at the box office. The historical entertainer crossed one million dollars in USA becoming biggest hit in Balakrishna’s career. People are singing praises of Balakrishna and Krish’s guts to come with such historical entertainer exploring unknown horizons.
Even as filmmakers and fans are enjoying the success of Satakarni, shocking allegations are coming on the film. Responding to a criticism that Satakarni is not a historical one but a fictional film, Krish says “I don’t want to start a discussion and make somebody famous right now. We are not bigger than Kavisamrat Viswanatha Satyanarayana, who has written about Satakarni in his book Andhra Prasasthi decades back. I felt that Satakarni is a Telugu person and made the film. If you like the film, appreciate it; it’s not the time to degrade ourselves,”
He adds “All we know about the King is what we read in our textbooks as children. I did a lot of research and found there was no complete information on him anywhere, so I took a few facts and added some fiction to make it cinematic.”
He shared “In my research, I found that Satakarni was poisoned, although they didn’t mention exactly how it happened. So we added an imaginary scene. There is also no evidence of when he actually put his mother’s name before his own. We have taken whatever we got from our research and added fictional elements to it.”
On the criticism he says “I don’t want to comment on it. I thank both the Chief Ministers for the tax exemptions. Maybe some people cannot digest that I am a Telugu director who has come up with such a good and successful film, which is why they have started throwing accusations against me,”
Captain L.Panduranga Reddy speaking to scribes said ” we have no problem with the film if they stop claiming it as a historical film. They must admit that it is a fictional movie”. Panduranga Reddy, President of Voice of Telangana says ” In fact, there is a wrong notion that the Satavahanas were telugu people, for a long time, they had ruled their kingdom from an area, which is currently in Maharashtra”
He added ” It was Rudradaman, a Saka ruler from Western Kshatrapa dynasty who defeated Pulamavi and pushed him down to the south -coastal AP, as a result, Pulamavi made Dharnikota as his capital” He added ” This means Pulamavi came to Andhra as a fugitive and not as a conqueror, which is what the film tries to convey”
