Three men who gang-raped a teenager in Delhi in February 2012, poured acid on her and later gouged out her eyes with a screw driver have been given the death sentence for her assault and murder by a court in the city.
The 19-year-old’s decomposed body was recovered from a village in Haryana three days after she was abducted while on her way back home from her office in Gurgaon. Her body also bore cigarette burn marks. According to the prosecution, the convicts repeatedly raped and brutalized her for three days before she died.
The Delhi Police had asked for the death sentence for the convicts saying the offence committed by them falls under the rarest of rare category. The prosecution also told the court that the convicts had not shown any remorse during the trial. The trio was convicted on February 13.
The girl, who worked as a data entry operator in Gurgaon’s Cyber City, was abducted by the three in a car near her house in Qutub Vihar area of Delhi and was gang-raped and murdered by them on February 9, 2012. Her mutilated body was found three days later from a field in Rodhai village in Haryana’s Rewari district.
According to the public prosecutor, two of the convicts were brothers and had planned to take revenge as the girl had rejected their advances.
