NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a one-and-half-year-old girl in South Delhi’s Hauz Khas. The toddler was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where her condition is stated to be stable. A medical examination has confirmed sexual assault.
Police have identified the accused as Santosh Rai, who works as a security guard in Shahpur Jat. “The arrest was made on Monday evening after the victim’s parents approached the police,” a police officer said.
The survivor’s father said Santosh was his colleague and he had asked him to look after his daughter as he was on the morning shift. Moreover, since his wife also works as a domestic help there was no one to tend to the child.
“He asked Santosh to look after his daughter as he was on morning shift and Santosh on night shift. The incident came to light when the girl’s father came back and found his daughter bleeding. He immediately informed the police and the victim was taken to hospital,” the police officer said.
A case was registered against Santosh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Hauz Khas police station. Police said further investigations were on.
