The victim was identified as V Narasimha, 55, husband of Ramulamma. Both of them were daily-wage workers and were staying at AV Nagar in Turkayamzal since the past one year. The couple has two sons and two daughters and all of them except the youngest, Tirumalesh, 16, are married and live separately. As his parents were addicted to liquor, Tirumalesh too had begun to work at construction sites to supplement the household income.
While returning home from work on Saturday night, Tirumalesh saw his father lying on the road in an inebriated condition and brought him home. As soon as Narasimha entered the house with soiled clothes, Ramulamma, who had also consumed liquor, became furious and started assaulting him with a stick.
When Tirumalesh tried to stop her, Ramulamma dragged him into a room and locked him up. She then continued the assault on her husband. With severe bleeding injuries on his head, Narasimha collapsed and died on the spot. After regaining her composure later in the night, Ramulamma tried to clean up the house, but the neighbours noticed the body and alerted the police.
“We have shifted the body for a post-mortem examination and have taken Ramulamma into custody. A case was registered against her under sections 302 (Murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC,” Vanasthalipuram inspector P Gopala Krishna Murthy said.
