The victim was identified as Usha Sahu, 24, from Odisha. Usha was pursuing B Ed one-year diploma at the Eflu and was staying at Malkabai Chanda hostel on the campus.
On Monday night, friends grew suspicious about her condition as she did not come out of the hostel room for a long time and was not responding to phone calls.
Usha’s friend then alerted another university student, who then went to the former’s room and knocked on the door.
As Usha was not responding to knocks on the door and phone calls for a long time, students and university officials, opened the window door using force and found Usha hanging from the ceiling fan with a stole.
‘Victim was in a depressed state’
Immediately, the room’s door was forcibly opened by the students and Usha, who appeared to be in an unconscious state, was rushed to nearby Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Kacheguda , J Ranjan Ratan Kumar said.
The ACP said that no suicide note was found and the exact reason for her suicide was yet to be ascertained.
The preliminary inquiry by police has revealed that Usha was in a depressed mood since the past few days. Usha apparently had a classroom seminar presentation on Tuesday and she reportedly told her friends that she was not in a condition to do it.
Police have alerted the family of the victim about the death. They shifted the body for a post-mortem examination and registered a case under section 174 (Suspicious death) of the CrPC.
