If you thought that the Telangana Government will finally focus on governance after the Lok Sabha elections are over, think again. The Telangana will have another mega election across the length and breadth of the state. Yes. The 6 Municipal Corporations and 142 municipal councils in the state will go to polls in June. This means, the parties would once again be in the campaign mode and the administration would be busy preparing for the polls. Consequently, no developmental activity can be taken up as election code would be in force.
The election would be a complicated one as 136 adjoining villages have been merged into the six municipal corporations. Similarly, 131 gram panchayats have been merged into 42 existing municipalities. Another 175 village panchyats have been upgraded to municipalities. As a result, the reservations need to be worked out and the rolls have to be upgraded. As many as 1.36 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the urban local body polls.
