Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman Passed Away


Bangaru-Laxman-deadHyderabad: Former president of BJP Bangaru Lakshman has breathed his last today.He has breathed his last at the city-based Yashoda Hospital receiving treatment for a bronchial disease.

Lakshman is survived by wife, a son and three daughters.He was president of the BJP between 2000-2001.He served as minister of state for Railways in the AB Vajpayee government during 1999-2000.

Lakshman was jailed during the height of emergency in 1975. He was nominated as member of Rajya Sabha in 1996. Later, he represented Jalore constituency of Rajasthan in Lok Sabha.

But the most well-known incident in his life was the Tehelka sting operation episode when he was president of BJP. Lakshman had to resign as party president following the sting operation and the nation-wide outrage it caused, as projected by media then.

The Tehelka sting operation showed him receiving a sum of Rs 0ne lakh as bribe for a favour in the BJP government.

BJP senior leader M. venkaiah Naidu expressed condolences on the death of the senior leader.
