Bangalore: Ashok Vemuri, head of Americas and manufacturing at Infosys Ltd, has resigned at a time when the Bangalore-based firm is going through the biggest organizational restructuring in its history under co-founder and executive chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy. Vemuri was widely considered to be a contender for the top job at the company when current chief executive S.D. Shibulal’s term ends in 2015.
India’s second largest software exporter has named Sanjay Jalona, current regional head of manufacturing, as Vemuri’s replacement.“Ashok Vemuri, member of the board, has decided to leave Infosys. Ashok has been an integral part of the Infosys journey over the last 15 years.
He has played a significant role in building the company’s market leadership in the financial services and manufacturing verticals and in North America. The transition plan is in place,” the company said in a statement.Vemuri’s resignation comes amid a string of high-profile exits at Infosys, including that of Basab Pradhan, former head of sales. Last week, its US head of financial services, Sudhir Chaturvedi, also resigned.
As head of Americas and manufacturing, Vemuri was overseeing more than $2 billion of annual business for Infosys.
