Heavily armed terrorists stormed the highly fortified District Police Lines (DPL) in Pulwama and fired indiscriminately on Saturday. Five security personnel and two terrorists have died, while some security force men have been injured.
The attack occurred at around 4.30 am when the fidayeens fired indiscriminately and barged into the DPL complex at Pulwama. “At least two militants are holed up inside the building. So far three CRPF men and a J&K policeman have been injured,” Rajesh Yadav, CRPF spokesman at Srinagar told DNA.
Security forces have rushed in reinforcements to neutralize the holed up militants. All the entry and exit points have been sealed off and security forces have tightened the cordon and engaged the ultras. Sources said there was heavy exchange of firing between militants and the security forces.
“Police and 182th battalion of CRPF are on the job to eliminate the ultras”, said Yadav.
Mobile internet facilities have been withdrawn in the district as a precautionary measure to avoid rumour mongering and prevent miscreants from mobilizing crowds in the area.
The attack comes almost two months after security forces foiled two similar suicide attacks in Kashmir valley. On June 5 CRPF foiled a major fidayeen attack when they killed four suicide attackers before they could make their way into the camp of 45th battalion in Sumbal in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
On June 11 Indian army has thwarted a major fidayeen attack on its installation in the Uri sector after they foiled a major infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) and killed five Lashkar-e-Tioba suicide bombers who were armed with uniquely bodily fitted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with timer mechanism.
