Maaya-Telugu-Movie-ReviewTitle : Maaya (2014)
Star Cast : Harshvardhan Rane , Avantika Mishra, Sushma Raj
Director : Neelakanta
ReleaseDate :  August 1, 2014.
TeluguNow Rating : 2.75/5Neelakantha is a unique director. He turns a just normal story to something magical. He brings life to the story with interesting twists. That twist would be the turning point of the film, whether it is a hit or flop. Maya has also a special twist and at a critical place. Has Maya shown Neelakantha brand? What was the trial to of Neelakantha? Come let’s go into the story.

Story Line :

It’s a story of a girl named Meghana (Avantika). She suddenly foresees her future and that too about deaths. She comes to know about her mother’s death but she couldn’t save her. Meghana grows and joins in a TV channel. After 20 years again she could see her future. She feels the instincts of somebody dying but now they turn real. In the meantime fashion designer Rahul (Rane) comes into her life. He aims in resurrecting handloom industry of the state which is slowly loosing its sheen. He designs a TV programme along with Meghana. They both come closer in love. Here enters another character of Ramya (Sushma) who is a childhood friend of Meghana and a fiancée of Rahul. On realizing this Meghana tries to withdraw from the tryst. Again Meghana could see the future wherein Rahul is seen killing Ramya. She determines to save her childhood friend. What did she do? What is Rahul’s nature? What’s his flashback? Answers to these questions is Maya..

Maya is inspired by a Hollywood flick ‘Final Destination’. In that movie also future is shown in five parts and the narration of death sequence made the movie a sensational hit. So, for English movie followers Maya won’t be a special one and for others it would be a delight. Adding to this Neelakanth wrote 2-3 twists on his own. He combined few love stories to the original version. One of the story is shown as a thriller. Story was smooth and interesting until the handloom and heroine’s love episodes were dragged. Obviously thriller stories should not include boring episodes of love and emotions. This was a lapse from Neelakanth. He tried to stretch the story with songs for filling up the time. Only with the twist just before interval the magic began. Again at the end of the second half the punch is brought back. Neelakanth’s skills and brand were seen at this point. He gives a clue to audience and lets them follow the magic. To know the clue one has to watch the movie.

Cast :

Rane was smart enough and suited his role. He tried to display style of John Abraham’s muscle display. Avantika was also glamorous. She was too cute when she was calm. She felt discomfort at few places but on the whole she is OK. Sushma’s role has completely misfired. Another actress with beauty and acting would have done justice to the role. Nagababu is OK. Apart from these others roles need not be mentioned.

Technical :

Technical department can be given good marks. Especially Neelakanth embedded good effects and brought difference from routine movies. Screenplay could have been shortened and fine tuned to get some speed. Unexpected twists in the climax didn’t suit. Dialogues are just normal. Camera and Music are just OK. Sekhar Chandra offered old tunes but at RR he impressed. Madhura Sridhar has thoughtfully spent and planned this movie.

Telugu Mirchi Analysis :

Director Neelakanth tried to do magic with twists. One has to bear the full length to experience these twists. It’s a good relief for audience who are longing for. Out of routine applaudable flick.
