A special court in Mumbai has issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against tainted cricket administrator Lalit Modi in a money laundering case. The warrant was issued after he failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate despite summons being issued to him twice.
“NBW has to be issued as Modi has not responded to the summons. We have already mailed him the summons twice,” the ED’s counsel said.
The warrant will be sent to the Home Ministry and then will be forwarded to the British Home Ministry.
The ED is investigating whether Lalit Modi was a beneficiary of Rs 125 crore paid by the Singapore-based Multi Screen Media to Mauritius-based World Sports Group for television rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
