Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Passed Away


Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy, the seer of Kanchi Mutt has died, after his discharge from the hospital in Chennai, Kanchi Mutt sources have confirmed.

According to Kanchi Mutt sources, the senior pontiff had developed complications and had to be hospitalised Sunday evening but died today, about 24-hours after his discharge from the Ramachandra Medical Centre in Porur, Chennai, the report said.

The Kanchi seer, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swami, who was rushed to a private hospital in Chennai, returned to Sankara Mutt on Monday. However, according to Kanchi Mutt sources, the head of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham died after he was found unconscious in a bathroom. All efforts by his peronal aides to resuscitate him proved futile.

Enquiries reveal that the senior pontiff had health complications and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and provided treatment.

According to a team of doctors, under the supervision of NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor T Ravi Raju, the cause of death cannot be ascertained until autopsy report is released.

On Sunday, Jayendra Saraswati’s blood sugar and sodium levels dropped significantly, rendering him very weak. A personal physician also came down from Chennai to attend on the seer.

He showed improvement in the hospital on Sunday, Ravi Raju said, adding as the seer looked normal, he was discharged from the hospital and sent to ashram where he died this afternoon.

The Kanchi seer had been camping in Vijayawada for the last few days, conducting the Chaturmasya Vratam, a four-month religious ritual. He was expected to stay in ashram till September 16 after the ‘Vratam’.
