The much-awaited Vizag to New Delhi direct train, Andhra Pradesh Express will have its maiden run on August 12 (Wednesday) at 9.30 am from Visakhapatnam Railway Station. After the state bifurcation, people of Andhra Pradesh have been demanding the railway ministry for AP Express covering north and south regions of coastal Andhra. Earlier, the Railway Ministry had decided to run AP Express from Vijayawada. But, as a result of the constant demand, especially from Vizag MP K Haribabu for the past one year to make AP Express originate from Vizag, the Railway Ministry directed divisional railway manager, Vizag to run AP Express from Vizag to New Delhi via Vijayawada. According to MP K Haribabu, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu would flag off the train from New Delhi using remote-control, in the presence of Union ministers M Venkaiah Naidu, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Sujana Choudhary and other MPs from the State.
The superfast air-conditioned AP Express will run tri-weekly as No. 22415 Visakhapatnam to New Delhi and No. 22416 New Delhi to Visakhapatnam, with stoppages at Anakapalle, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Tadepalligudem and Eluru between Vizag-Vijayawada.
