The talented Vidya Balan is back with another women oriented film in her upcoming venture, Bobby Jasoos. The movie directed by Samar Shaikh hits the theatres tomorrow. We are bringing you the detailed review much in advance.

Story:

Bilkis Ahmad aka Bobby (Vidya Balan) is a Muslim girl living in an orthodox household in the small lanes of Mogulpura, Hyderabad. Bobby always dreams of becoming the top most detective in her neighborhood, because of which she keeps on taking small cases to keep herself busy and get some experience. Dressed in a salwar kameez, canvas shoes and a knapsack, Bobby does not have a life of her own and lives around investigation.

Her life and career takes a huge turn after Anees Khan (Kiran Kumar) who throws money in her face to hunt down a couple of young women. Seeing a huge amount of money, she was being paid for the cases, Bobby forgets to do a background check of Anees.

What is Anees doing with the girls? Will Bobby be able to get the girls back and will she find out the truth behind Anees’ intentions? That forms the rest of the story…

Plus points:

There are a number of bollywood movies based on detectives that have come, gone and are also all set to release, but this is the first time that we see a female detective make her mark onscreen.

With movies like Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, it is pretty predictable of Vidya to throw an act that does wonders. However, let us tell you that the actress knows no stopping when it comes to portraying any and every kind of role. She is surely a ‘Maa’ of women oriented movies, and we can’t wait to see more actresses learn from Vidya and enter this space soon.

The various disguises of Vidya makes us believe in the actresses prowess even more. She carries off the role of a typical hyderabadi Muslim with perfection.

It is usually seen, that the male leads in women centric movies are either kept too low or are now given much scope to show off their talent. This is however not the case here. Ali Faizal absolutely compliments Vidya and is perfect for his character. Not to forget, that the actor looks hot and carries off his modernized Hyderabadi look aptly.

While in the promos the chemistry between Vidya and Ali may have looked lame, but as the movie progresses, the pair looks beautiful together.

Rest of the cast including Kiran Kumar, Supra Pathak, Arjun Bajwa and Rajedra Gupta are pure perfection.

Minus Points:

Now let me tell you that Kahaani has probably ruined the way in which we may watch any of Vidya’s other movies. Kahaani had a plot and a suspense that made us long for some more in other movies. This is probably the reason that the suspense in Bobby Jasoos proved to be lame and disappointing on so many levels.

While the mystery in the movie kept us glued to our seats, we were expecting a crackling clincher to follow in the climax. But alas, that is not what happens here. There are many scenes that needed an explanation as the movie ends, but we are left to die in suspense.

While the first half will keep you smiling throughout, the second has a few flaws and a bit stretched.

Technical aspects:

Albeit of being a debutante, Samar Shaikh’s direction deserves an applaud. His idea of making a movie which is absolutely to-the-point and includes no unwanted scenes and songs what-so-ever is praiseworthy.

The story of the movie is engaging and fast-paced and the screenplay is beautiful and crisp. Editing is sharp. The songs of the film are excellent and placed at the right spots in the plot.

The song ‘Arziaan’ deserves a special mention because of its soulful lyrics, beautiful picturization and amazing chemistry between Vidya and Ali.

A special mention goes to the cinematographer of the film, Vishal Sinha for beautifully capturing the picturesque beauty of Hyderabad and its small colorful lanes, scrumptious delicacies.

Verdict:

On the whole, Bobby Jassos is a good watch because of its incredible performance by the cast and a catchy story line and engaging screenplay. But the climax and hurried up climax spoils the fun to an extent. Finally, with so many pluses, one can easily excuse small flaws.
