Superstar Rajnikanth’s films are not minting huge revenues at the box-office like they used to before. After ‘Robo’ which was released way back in 2010, none of his films brought profits for the buyers in Telugu states. All his films like ‘Kochadiyaan’, ‘Linga’, ‘Kabali’, ‘Kaala’ and even the most prestigious ‘2.0’ ended up in losses. His last film, ‘Petta’ didn’t earn enough money despite a good talk.
This is making the distributors feel reluctant to buy Rajni’s upcoming film ‘Darbar’ in Telugu. Though it is directed by dependable AR Murugadoss, Rajni’s bad run and the timing of its release is concerning them. It is hitting the screens during Sankranti season which is already heated up with Mahesh and Allu Arjun competing with each other. Though ‘Darbar’ releases on 9th January and will be having a solo run for two days, things will get tough for it once ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ and ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramlo’ hits the screens.
As Pongal is a perfect season to release in Tamil Nadu, the makers have chosen 9th January but the same date is worrying the buyers in Telugu states. So, let us wait and see what happens.
