For promotions, we see many producers allotting crores these days even though social media seemed fairly costless in the beginning.

Many use legitimate tactics to gain views for their videos and this is encourage-able when the makers confine it creating buzz, all over.

But when they start promoting the views and likes as records that is when, fans and others start taking it as prestigious mark and a symbol of popularity.

Tamil fans have taken this to next level and trending on social media has become a huge war between popular stars fans in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil film Industries.

We don’t see such behaviour with Malayalam or Kannada film heroes. Even Hollywood actors doesn’t care much about it.

They know that these trends won’t last for long. Real records are those like first film to run for 365 days in Theatres, films that collected big even during cyclones and films that managed to create mass hysteria and euphoria in theatres.

These social media records are just an indication for buzz and they don’t stand a chance to last for test of time. If so, Akshay Kumar should be the biggest Superstar and Shah Rukh Khan should have never given a box office flop.

With Sarileru Nekevvaru teaser hitting magic numbers on social media within hours and Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo film songs getting huge number of views, the scrutiny behind them will be more.

In SLN case, clicks from Pakisthan are revealed to have been more than UK and Europe. This indicates some kind of “fake” mechanism used to boost up the algorithm for views count.

Before this, Allu Arjun’s Naa Peru Surya teaser got more clicks from Africa. Well, rather than using these as mechanisms to promote the film, if “Record Breaking” numbers become targets, producers might get lost in such battles as Fans will take it on their ego for sure!
