Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani created a sensation with Jio GigaFiber Plan that guaranteed screening of new films on television on the release day itself. That’s a move which is against the theatrical experience for which feature films are being made.
Compare the experience an individual can have watching a film of #RRR scale in the Theatre and in the living room on Television on Day 1? Certainly, Watching a movie in theatre along with hundreds of people guarantees much better experience. At the same time, Nobody could deny the fact that more number of people are getting used to watching new movies on Smartphones, Laptops and TVs with OLED/QLED Screens these days.
Luckily for ‘Saaho’ and ‘Sye Raa’, There is nothing to worry with their releases scheduled to happen in the next two months. #RRR might encounter a serious problem if Reliance succeeds in its mission. Why would people come to theatres if films were screened on Television on the release day? Filmmakers will find it difficult to get Distributors and Exhibitors if this new move turns out to be successful. They should solely rely on the package being offered by Reliance which could indulge in monopoly. In that case, Recovering a budget of Rs 350 crore becomes almost impossible. Will these factors force SS Rajamouli to prepone #RRR so that it can avoid the Reliance effect in Mid-2020?
