Hyderabad:Medak Lok Sabha seat, going to by-election in the second week of September, turns hot as the political parties vying for roping in a tough and winnable candidate into the fray.
Even as the Election Commission of India has issued a notification for the by-election to the prestigious seat fell vacant followed by resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the parties have almost taken a decision to field their candidates.
TNGO leaders today called on Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali at the Secretariat here and sought Medak MP Ticket to their leader Devi Prasad. They appealed to him to impress upon Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to rope in Devi Prasad.
Talking to mediapersons later, TNGO leader Muzeeb said Devi Prasad, who actively led Telangana movement should be given a chance to contest from Medak. “We have appealed to the Deputy CM to field their leader Deviprasad.
After a patient hearing, Mahamood Ali stated that he would take up the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister.
According to the information, the AICC has zeroed in on Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, a former minister to contest from Medak. While former deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha wants his wife Padmini Reddy to be given a chance. The AICC considers Sunitha being a loyal Congress leader and is noted for a fair political career. AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who arrived in Hyderabad, is likely to announce Sunitha’s name. The AICC decision to set aside for time-being a list of DCC Chiefs proposed by Telangana Congress chief, Lakshmaiah is reluctant to buy time.
Interestingly, the BJP is also eyeing to rope in rather a strong candidate, who enjoys people’s support in the wake of BJP national president Amith Shah’s directive to win the seat at any cost. According to the information, the BJP topbrass is planning to field senior leader and former Union minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao, who is known for fair and spotless politics. Also other names doing rounds in political circles are Narendranath and Kishan Reddy from BJP. Actress-turned-politician Vijayashanti, who lost in the recent elections from the Congress is learnt to have revealed her mind to get back to the BJP fold. Its top brass will take a decision in this regard, it is learnt. When asked recently, Kishan Reddy maintained that Vijayashanti and many others are ready to join the BJP, but a decision is still to be taken.
However, this time around, the TDP being an ally of the BJP at the Centre is likely to extend support to the latter instead of fielding its own candidate. It may be stated here that BJP national president Amith Shah who called on Naidu is learnt to have shared his idea of fielding a joint candidate who is capable of winning a tough contest in Medak.
And finally, the TRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, who put in his papers to Medak MP seat after taking over as the first Chief Minister of Telangana State is more cautious on the issue. As the filing of nomination for the elections is fast nearing, KCR is to take a decision after winding up his Singapore jaunt. On his arrival, he will focus on finalising a candidate, who can give a tough fight to other parties, sources said. It has become a prestige issue for the Chief Minister to win the Medak seat by roping in a public figure with service motto.
