Big Dasara Releases Arriving With Big Runtime!

Indian films usually had a runtime of around three hours till a decade back. But it was reduced to two and a half hours and some of the filmmakers even reduced it further. With the attention span of the audience getting reduced a lot, the directors and editors were too adamant about making the film 130 or 140 minutes long. In order to have a crisp runtime, they used to chop emotional scenes or comedy scenes which took away a lot from the movie.

But the trend changed once again over the past few years. People started believing that runtime is not an issue if the content is strong enough. Movies like ‘Arjun Reddy’ and ‘Rangasthalam’ were over three hours and so were Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ and ‘RRR’. A lot of movies in recent times arrived with big runtimes and ended up being successful at the box office. Now, there are some big Dasara releases arriving our way.

They are not just big in terms of scale and budget but the length as well. Ravi Teja’s ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’ has completed the censor formalities and the runtime of the movie is reportedly 3 hours and 2 minutes. This is quite big but we need to see if the content manages to impress the audience or not. Even Vijay’s ‘Leo’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is over 165 minutes as per the sources from the censor board. Balakrishna’s action entertainer ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’ is also expected to have over 160 minutes runtime and it is quite lengthy for a commercial flick. Let us wait and see if all these three films managed to get positive talk despite the lengthy runtime or not.
