Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Movie Review

Film: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Cast:Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, Marton Csokas
Director: Timur Bekmambetov
Rating:3/5
Screenwriter: Seth Grahame-Smith

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Seth Grahame-Smith (the film is an adaptation of his own best-selling novel), is a novel concept which has been taken too seriously.

The setting in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is very captivating with its old European rustic charm. Lot of gruesome blood sucking sequences and unnerving music to go with it adds a lot of fear element to it. Though the first half is a bit slow, the film picks up feverishly in the second half and you can’t take your eyes off the screen.

Timur Bekmambetov, whose 2008 released blockbuster Wanted was stylish and thrilling to the core falters a little here as the script seems confused and muddled up. In fact, even the 3D effect fails to create the impact that was expected.

STORY:

The story of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter begins when Lincoln was a child. He witnesses the gruesome and extremely disturbing death of his mother after being bitten by a vampire. Since then, he undertakes the challenge of hunting down the vampires. What happens next? Does Abraham succeed in his goal? Watch the film to know.

Performances

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd steals the show with her brilliant performance. She seems very convincing as a mother who has just lost her little son, and also as a wife who is happy being the person behind the success of her man. The role of Dominic Cooper’s Henry as the vampire is very hard hitting. Benjamin Walker as expected stands tall and fits the role perfectly. The tired and fatigue makeover is very good.

Verdict

Watch Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter if you are not too keen on watching a ‘lived happily ever after’ kind of movie.
