SS.Thamman is the music director for the movie. Tollywood actor srikanth is playing a special role in this movie. The movie is going to hit the screens on April 26th

Telugu movie Shadow is a revenge drama and the director has blended it with all masala elements like action, comedy, romance and sentiment in it. Victory Venkatesh’s stylish performance is the main highlight in the movie. Meher Ramesh’s screenplay and funny and punch dialogues, S Thaman’s music, Prasad Murella’s picturisation, amazing action scenes, beautiful costumes, makeup and art directions are its other attractions. But the old and predictable story in the second half is the main drawback of the film.

Shadow has a routine storyline, but Meher Ramesh has made it interesting watch by including twists and turns. It should be mentioned here that the director is known for copying scenes from other Telugu films and he has continued it here in Shadow too. There are a few scenes, which have been copied from hit movie, and Gabbar Singh Anthyakshari scene is the best example for it.

The movie revolves around a guy taking revenge on an international don. Besides stunning action, the director has also included sister sentiment and a lot of comedy to woo Venkatesh’s family audience. He has got good grip over the narration of whole show. The first half of the film is a laugh riot and Venkatesh tickles your funny bones as memory loss patient. This portion also has lot of action, family sentiment and entertainment.

Shadow Telugu movie review highlights

The title song ‘Shadow’ filmed on Venkatesh is quite stylish and his costumes are trendy.

Venkatesh, who makes his entry with punch dialogues and a fight sequence, makes quite an impact. His dialogue ‘Nenu evaru anedhi mystery, nanu catch cheyalante history, meeru chudaboyedhi naa victory’, evokedmany whistles. While he does look good, Venky’s character lacks intensity and he comes across as rather subdued. His comic timing is not the best either.

Meher Ramesh incorporates a parody of the Gabbar Singh Anthyakshari scene. Venky however, fails to pack a punch in the Gabbar Singh costumes. Also, the spoof of tracks from Mahesh Babu and Jr NTR’s are not as as impressive as expected.

As the film progress, the narrative becomes tedious and uninteresting – perhaps the director and editor ought to have used their scissors more liberally as the action thriller ends up dragging along at a snail’s pace.

Taapsee looks glamorous as Madhubala. Besides a good performance, she shows off her sensual side in a few scenes and in the number ‘Gola Gola’

Srikanth plays the part of a cop well. Naga Babu is ok as an investigative journalist for operation Shadow. Also, Bollywood actor Adithya Pancholi, as Nana Bhai, perfectly suits the character of a Mumbai don

SS Thaman’s music are passable. but his background score hogs the limelight as it elevates the tempo in the action episodes

Negative Points :

The biggest drawback of this movie is Meher Ramesh. This film seems to be his personal attack on viewers. Atrocious direction and ill conceived scenes never allow the film to recover, despite a strong star cast.

He has tried to incorporate Gabbar Singh’s popular anthyakshari scene into the film, but the end result is very poor. The film also suffers from very bad writing. Logic goes for a big toss and the proceedings end up testing the patience of viewers. It felt quite painful to watch an actor of Venkatesh’s calibre in scenes like the one where he calls Tapsee “Aunty”.

The placement of songs in the film is terrible. The ‘Naughty Girl’ song in the movie comes in at a most inappropriate time and many people walked out of the theater at that point.

The film’s ‘comedy’ scenes are silly and outdated. They end up irritating viewers.

Sister sentiment and mother sentiment scenes are quite popular with Telugu viewers. If well executed, these scenes usually draw family crowds and generate a positive feedback for a film. But in ‘Shadow’, these scenes just do not have any emotional impact.

The climax block is painfully bad. There is a fight sequence towards the end, where Venkatesh fights in total darkness. Only the flashes of gunfire can be seen. Looks like Meher Ramesh took the concept of ‘shadow’ quite seriously.

Aditya Pancholi looks very uncomfortable as Nana Bhai. Rahul Dev and Supreeth are monotonous. Veteran actress Geetha is wasted in a poor role. Madhurima does not have anything to do. Krishna Bhagawan and Vennela Kishore have terribly written characters.

Technical Analysis :

Prasad Murella’s cinematography is not up to the mark. The visuals don’t have a rich feel, despite the grand and extravagant locations. Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is very bad, but should the editor or the director take the blame for this? Thaman’s background music is ok, but the songs are just very average.

Meher Ramesh’s direction is pedestrian. ‘Shakti’ is a much better effort when compared to this.

Verdict :

‘Shadow’ is a terrible film. Despite the presence of someone as talented as Venkatesh in the lead, poor direction and bad writing end up driving the film into the ground. Meher Ramesh must realise that style without substance will never work.

Final Say about Venky Shadow Movie:

Meher seems to lose his grip over the narration with the introduction of quite a few characters, who dosen’t gel with the script and with the pace of the film. The dialogues, too are not very powerful.

The movie loses out in the humour quotient too. Meher has got the style of the movie right with its good looking frames and visuals, but the story and screenplay isn’t too convincing. It’s a mash up of several other movies and does not showcase anything new.
