Egg yolks are as bad as smoking for the heart!

egg-yolksA new study, conducted and published by a group of researchers, found that egg yolks can damage the arteries as much as smoking.

The study says that eating the egg yolks accelerates Atherosclerosis, a heart disease, which is also known as arteriosclerotic vascular disease or ASVD, in a manner similar to smoking cigarettes or tobacco for that matter.

Higher number of egg yolks consumed per week by a person accelerates the thickening of arteries almost as severely as done by cigarette smoking.

Dr. David Spence of Western University, which is located in London, Ontario, Canada, lead the team of researchers in that new research study which was published Tuesday in the journal Atherosclerosis.

He and his team surveyed more than 1200 patients and found that regular and periodic consumption of egg yolks is about two-thirds as bad as cigarette smoking when it comes to increased build-up of carotid plaque, a risk factor for stroke and heart attack.

The study was conducted by looking at health data of 1231 men and women, with an average age of 61.5, who were heart patients that were referred to vascular prevention clinics at London Health Sciences Centre’s University Hospital.

The researchers found that carotid plaque area increased linearly with age after age 40 and increased exponentially with smoking and egg yolk consumption.

In other words, both tobacco smoking and egg yolk consumption accelerate atherosclerosis after the age of 40 in a significant manner.

The study also found that those eating three or more yolks a week had significantly more plaque area than those who had two or fewer yolks per week.

The study is a warning to those over 40 and it is time to avoid egg yolk. If it is not possible decrease the no of egg yolk consumption equal or less than two.

If you are over 40, regardless whether you are a male or female, please avoid eggs or at-least the egg yolks.

Better safe than sorry!
