Apple iPhone 6 leaked images surface online

iphone-6NEW DELHI: With Samsung, HTC and Sony done with their big launches of the year, all eyes are on Apple to launch the next big thing – iPhone 6. The device is expected to usher in the era of big-screen iPhones and help Apple regain market share from arch rival Samsung.

A new set of images of iPhone 6 has leaked on Chinese microblogging website Weibo. The caption on the photos claims that they have been captured at Foxconn, the company that manufactures iPhones and iPads for Apple.

The images suggest that the upcoming iPhone model will carry the same design that Apple has used since iPhone 4, despite the increase in size. Going by the images, Apple is also making the next iPhone much thinner than the current models. The latest rumours suggest that iPhone 6 will be 7.1mm thick, making it 0.5mm thinner than iPhone 5S and iPhone 5.

The edges in the leaked iPhone 6 prototype are more rounded than in current models.

The photos also show that the camera module on the back will protrude from the back, making it look similar to the rear panel of the fifth-generation iPod touch. These photos also suggest that Apple will do away with the dual-tone two-LED setup that it introduced last year in this year’s model. This is the second time that a photo of iPhone 6 without dual-LED flash has surfaced online.

According to tech grapevine, Apple’s iPhone 6 will come in two screen sizes – 4.7- and 5.5-inch. It is expected to have an upgraded 64-bit processor, 10MP rear camera, scratch-resistant sapphire glass display, bezel-less screen, solar charging and faster Wi-Fi access. It is also said to come with a number of health-centric features, suggesting more features for Touch ID fingerprint sensor and M7 co-processor.

Schematics of iPhone 6 leaked last week suggest that the 5.5-inch variant will be nearly as big as Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in size. A recent report has said that Apple’s contract manufacturers will start producing iPhone screens as early as May, while the models are expected to hit the market in September.
