Apple tests two versions of iPhone5

Seems like Apple is testing multiple versions of the iPhone simultaneously. As per the reports from 9to5Mac, at the Apple HQ, two versions of the Apple iPhone prototypes are under testing. Of these, one might be the upcoming iPhone that will be released in 2012.

These prototypes are masked within thick black shells that hide the phone inside. Both the models have larger screens when compared to the current one measuring 3.5 inches. Internally, the prototypes are called iPhone 5,1 and iPhone 5,2 respectively. The models are in the PreEVT stage of testing and have code names like N41AP and N42AP.

Both the models have a 3.99 inch screen when measured diagonally. Apple has not only increased the display size but also added more pixels to it. The models have 1136 x 640 pixel resolution. There is a rumor that Apple will be adding a fifth row of icons to the screen. This additional layer will use up the space on the iOS 6. The new version of iOS is taking complete advantage of the additional pixels. This makes the rumors about 4 inch screen on the iPhone 5 true.

Both the prototypes are believed to have a small dock connector and a home button. The new dock connector is claimed to be smaller and narrower version of the existing one. It is between the size of mini USB and micro USB connector.

There are many other rumors about the smartphone. It is expected to be slimmer than the iPhone 4S as it features the G/F2 thin film technology. Based on all the rumors about the upcoming iPhone, artist Jon Fawcett designed a concept model.
