Karbonn Titanium X launched: 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera

Karbonn-Titanium-XKarbonn’s upcoming flagship device, the Titanium X, looked fairly alluring ever since its first specs were revealed, but now that the list of features is (nearly) whole, it’s crystal clear the OEM will go after Samsung and Micromax, the two leaders of the Indian mobile market.

What changed between last month and now? Primarily, the display. Initially tipped to measure 5 inches and boast an unexciting 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution, the IPS panel will apparently go Full HD after all and use something called One Glass technology for superior autonomy.

Sadly, it shall need every possible trick in the book to keep the lights on between charges, as the battery is a feeble 2,300 mAh unit. And even with all sorts of software optimizations and special power-saving techniques, the autonomy is officially rated at a measly 6 hours in talk time, meaning in real life you’re more likely to achieve five hours or so.

Oh, well, at least you can’t complain of shoddy imaging capabilities, as the Karbonn Titanium X sports 13 MP/5 MP dual cameras. Then there’s pre-loaded Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (no KitKat, but close enough), 1 GB RAM, dual SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity, 16 GB built-in storage and microSD card slot.

The mystery persists as to the make and model of the CPU beneath Titanium X’s hood, but since it’s a quad-core clocked at 1.5 GHz, chances are it’s a MediaTek concoction.

A Snapdragon 600 may also be in the cards, albeit at a recommended retail price of $295 (Rs. 18,490), you can only hope for so much top-tier hardware. Expect the 5-incher in stores and online in a week or so and don’t be surprised if some sellers will ask as little as $280 for it. Your move, Micromax.
