Verizon’s LG G Pad 8.3 LTE scores Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

LG-G3Although pretty much discontinued in a stock Android-running form also known as a Google Play edition, LG’s solid G Pad 8.3 keeps making headlines, jumping from Jelly Bean to KitKat on Verizon.

Ah, yes, Big Red, the champions of poor software support. Not in this case though, as their LTE-enabled G Pad launched less than five months back and would have surprised no one if it got stuck on Android 4.2 for months going forward.

But, we’re guessing, the Full HD 8.3 incher proved a hit on America’s largest wireless network, which makes sense, since it’s so cheap. $199.99 with two-year contracts, $299.99 outright, or $14.99 a month as part of an Edge installment program.

Not bad for a quad-core slab with an anorexic 8.3 mm waist, 338-gram weight, 2 GB RAM, 5 megapixel rear camera with autofocus and microSD support. As for the software enhancements Android 4.4 brings to the low-cost champ, they’re detailed at this link here and include, among others, multi-user mode, immersive mode, wireless printing features and, yes, LG’s own special Knock Code security tweak.

You should be able to grab the update over-the-air simply by tapping accept once a prompt message pops up, but be sure to use only a Wi-Fi connection and keep the battery mark above 50 percent. Ah, how I love the smell of KitKat in the morning!
