Facebook is testing new sharing app called Moments

mom-and-sonWhen it comes to privacy policies and track records, most  social networks don’t have a squeaky clean record, and Facebook hasn’t been spared the ire of  users whenever news of changes to user content and privacy management comes out.

On the other hand, Facebook’s attempts at security have often been complicated or clumsy. Controlling content on Facebook has been relegated to multiple lists like Family,Friends, Acquaintances etc.  that restrict who can see a post and interact with it.

According to reports, Facebook is working on a micro sharing app, code named ‘Moments’ which is being internally tested among Facebook’s staff right now.

The app’s design is currently composed of tiles representing groups like family, friends or work colleagues and content can be shared with  the group by tapping on the tile.  The main aim of the app is expected to be selective content sharing, at improved speeds compared to Facebook’s primary app.

The ‘moments’ app is a visual attempt at making content sharing easier and more interactive instead of Facebook’s traditional text based approach.

The app can have user for situations where content is to be shared with specific sets of people on a regular basis like a closed group but with more control over responses and layout.

Facebook has been in the news for attempts at heightened privacy with self destructive posts like Snapchat also being revealed as under testing in recent days. The lure of  privacy ,and users’ appreciation of apps that fulfill the need is being recognized as a major factor to increasing accounts on social networks.

Just like Facebook did in 2011 with automated lists being added to users’ accounts, moments could also come with ready made lists, neatly sorting your network.

There’s no guarantee of whether Facebook has plans of rolling out the app to its larger user base or if the app will even remain in existence, like many projects that don’t eventually see the light of day.

No official confirmation of the app’s existence has been explicitly given out by Facebook so far.
